The Roots of Audi A8 – the 1980s
The origin of the Audi A8 can be traced back to the late 1980s, when Audi was looking to create a flagship luxury sedan that could compete with the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and the BMW 7 Series. The company’s technical developers and designers were given a task to create a car that would be ahead of its time in terms of engineering, technology and design. The result was the Audi V8, which was officially launched in 1988.

The Audi V8, with its innovative design and advanced technology, quickly gained popularity among the automotive enthusiasts and was praised for its exceptional performance and quality. However, it wasn’t until 1994 that the V8 received a major facelift and was rebranded as the Audi A8, marking the beginning of a new era for the luxurious sedan.
