Audi has recently issued a recall of 93,196 electric vehicles due to a potential fire hazard. The issue arises when using the industrial 220V/240V plug at the 100% charge setting. Some home power outlets may not be capable of handling the electrical current required to utilize the compact charging system, causing the outlet or charging cable to overheat. This could lead to a fire hazard and pose a threat to the safety of the vehicle and its occupants.
To mitigate this risk, Audi is advising owners not to use the 220V/240V compact/portable charging cable and instead use the 110V home charging cable or public charging stations. Owners are also advised to avoid charging their vehicles at a 100% charge setting.
Models Affected

To resolve the issue, dealers will supply a new 220V/240V compact/portable charging cable that includes a temperature sensor free of charge. The temperature sensor will help prevent the cable from overheating and reduce the risk of fire. The replacement cable should only be used at 220V/240V charging stations.
Owners will receive interim notification letters detailing the safety risk, which are expected to be mailed on February 9, 2024. A second notice will be sent once remedy parts become available, which is anticipated to be in mid-2024. In the meantime, owners are urged to take advantage of the free repairs as soon as the remedy parts become available.
