As we all know, Audi is prioritizing the transition to electric vehicles. However, the automaker has yet to abandon combustion engines entirely. Recently, Audi confirmed that their Audi RS performance vehicles will be divided into two platforms. The Head of Audi Design Marc Lichte disclosed the information in an interview published on the company’s official media site. He explained that future RS-badged cars will ride on two platforms: Premium Platform Electric (PPE) for EVs and Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) for ICEs.

Audi has announced that the TT RS and R8 models will be discontinued. However, in America, the RS3, RS5, RS6 Avant, and other models are still available. Even though Audi is planning to shift towards electric vehicles, it is also coming up with newer versions of gas-powered RS models. One of these is a possible updated version of the RS3 with a more powerful turbo-five engine. Furthermore, we can expect to see a revised RS Q8 and an even more enhanced RS6 Avant. These gas models will be based on different platforms than their electric counterparts.

Although the near future holds some promise, the days of sporty ICE models are numbered. The automaker has already announced that it will launch its final ICE-powered models in 2025. From 2026, all new product launches will be electric vehicles. By 2033, Audi intends to cease production of gasoline and diesel vehicles entirely and shift to a purely electric lineup.
