The Audi A3 is an extremely popular sedan mainly because it is compact and affordable. However, the latest news regarding a safety recall has caused concern for both current and potential owners. The recall, issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), addresses a potential fire hazard in certain A3 models.
According to the safety recall report from the NHTSA, the issue lies in the seal rings inside the suction jet pump of the affected vehicles. These rings were assembled with too much tension, which could lead to potential fuel leakage into the evaporative emissions (EVAP) system. If left untreated, this could increase the risk of fire in the engine compartment.
The recall list includes front-wheel-drive versions of the 2015-2020 Audi A3 sedan (47,391 units) and 2015-2019 Audi A3 Cabriolet (3,875 units). The affected vehicles were manufactured between March 2015 and March 2020. Audi is said to have identified the problem during routine quality control checks and has taken swift action to address the issue.
The German automaker has stated that they will replace the faulty suction jet pumps with new ones that have been redesigned to prevent fuel leakage. This new pump is based on 1,410 warranty claims on front-wheel-drive vehicles with repair dates between March 2016 and December 2023. No fires related to the issue have been reported thus far, but Audi is taking precautionary measures to ensure the safety of its customers.
The automaker has advised the owners of the affected Audi A3 models to stop driving their vehicles and contact their local Audi dealership immediately. The necessary repairs will be made free of cost, and customers will be notified when parts are available. To get more information about the recall, visit the NHTSA website.
